Virginia received $189 million for budget year one to advance a comprehensive, community-driven strategy to improve rural health across the Commonwealth.
Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program organizes its work into four interconnected initiatives. Visit the Virginia Rural Health Transformation website to learn more about the program and other funding opportunities.
VIPC was selected by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) to implement the Tech Innovation Fund within CareIQ. The Tech Innovation Fund provides non-dilutive grants to organizations operating in Virginia that have developed a novel healthcare technology for chronic disease prevention and management that can be deployed in targeted rural Virginia localities. It targets consumer-facing solutions that traditional funding structures leave underfunded or out of reach. Preference is given to solutions that directly deliver or enable care.
CareIQ and the Tech Innovation Fund support three of Virginia’s RHTP Key Performance Objectives:
Rural communities have historically been underrepresented as beneficiaries of technology innovation. The Fund invests where the private market has not — low population density, thin operating margins, and infrastructure that conventional digital health tools assume away.
Preference will be given to novel solutions that directly deliver or enable care and must focus on chronic disease prevention and management.
The program seeks proof-of-concept products through minimum viable product and includes functional prototype, demonstrated feasibility, and readiness at Technical Readiness Level (TRL) 4-7.
VIPC anticipates awarding approximately $9.9 million in non-dilutive grants ranging from $250,000 to $999,999.
